Red Sonja

This didn't start out as Red Sonja at all but as I started to ink her up I decided yeah... she's gonna be Sonja. I need some Sonja. So here's some Sonja. Based on Thorne, obviously.

Should I color her up? I mean... she's finished, I think. It's a bw piece. But color could be added. Just not sure if it would improve the image.

Johanna

In the course of drawing Dungeon Minds, a very rude humor comic with tits, I created a half-halfling named Johanna. She was a spitfire and one of the core leaders of the guild. I had notes indicating that her backstory was "trained by ninja order" and these assassins would eventually come for her. But stopped doing that comic before I could dive into it.

Because it was a tits comic and I was getting too much into the characters and story. Again: don't give me tits and ass and call it a real story. If I'm going for rude, I'm not going to infuse it with depth. To me that's a bait-and-switch or just ham-handed. But whatever... here's Johanna's butt.

Encounter at Ranger Forge

 I did a pinup spoof of a D&D style adventure module. Also did a really bad erotic comic to go with it, but I shall not post it here (cringe).

To make this, I scanned a real module and used the weathered edges in the final art.

Monster Attack!

 

I really tried to deliver the goods on this one. I was interested in doing more elaborate, complete pieces. A lot of hours went into it and I think it turned out pretty cool. I'm happy with her. I want to do more like this, but for me it's very hard to devote the time, energy, and mental space to these kinds of drawings. This is why I do so many smaller, quicker pieces.

I often think to myself why am I not making a living at this? The answers are multiple. One of the answers is just what I said: I have trouble maintaining the focus and dedication to consistently create more elaborate or complex works.

But in the end my creative journey has been both fun and fulfilling. I have no regrets and no complaints.

The Valkyrie

Honestly, this is one of my favorite pieces. Just a simple, small drawing. But it captures everything I love about doing pinup art. I think the character is cartoony as fuck, sexy as hell, and badass to boot.

And of course I did a less-busty version at some point to use in Black Pudding.

I must have a primal fear of serpents because I can't count how many times I've drawn someone threatened by or slaying a snake. Probably residual influence from the Conan the Barbarian movie.

The Last Taarakian

 What always made me scratch my head about the Taarna sequence in Heavy Metal was WTF kind of plan did the weird Greeks have anyway? You're under attack and you call for a mostly nude woman who is going to have to take a bath and get "dressed" before she comes to your aid? And it's just one lady? I mean, Taarna kicks ass but come on.

And where was she keeping that gold coin??
